Herbal Cocktails
Class Details
Let’s raise a glass to the longstanding tradition of enhancing our festive beverages with herbs! The fragrances, colors, tastes, and healthful properties of medicinal and culinary herbs have added depth and distinction to libations for thousands of years. Through the ages and across cultures, unique herbs were added to drinks because they aided in digestion, were fortifying, lifted one’s mood, or simply because they smelled amazing. In some cases, these recipes are complex, and heavily-guarded by, say, the monks who make them. But fortunately, crafting beautiful and tasty herbal cocktails is easy, totally accessible, and a lot of fun!
Join us as we take a look at how herbal bitters, syrups and infusions have enhanced and even helped to shape the drinks we drink, touching on some of the fascinating history and traditions of herbal beverages along the way! With a special focus on locally sourced medicinal plants, we’ll make three different herbal preparations in class, and then incorporate them into seasonal cocktails. Learning some basics will allow you to play with your own versions- the variations are endless.
You’ll receive a handy packet of herbal cocktail recipes, as well as herbal syrup and bitters samples, to get you going in time for sharing herbal craft cocktails with family and friends over the holidays!
