Herbal History, Plants & Practice in Mexican Curanderismo
Class Details
Mexican and Mexican American curanderismo has a rich and vibrant history of herbal medicine practices. In this class we will cover a brief history of plant knowledge that existed in Mexico before the arrival of Spanish colonizers in 1519. We will talk about the way Mexican herbal traditions evolved to incorporate plants indigenous to Mexico as well as plants introduced by the colonizers. This class will focus on some of the key native herbs that have been used in Mexico since antiquity, including members of the tagetes genus. Class time will include lecture, plant meditation, materia medica and sharing recipes.
